Another 3D Box. The original Agent X was released exclusively on the ZX Spectrum, making it somewhat unusual that Mastertronic chose to bring Agent X II to the Commodore 64. Unfortunately, the game itself is a mixed bag, offering three levels, each with a different gameplay style. The first level is a fairly decent horizontal shoot-’em-up, but the second is a rather uninspired platformer, and the third—a weak attempt at an Arkanoid/Breakout clone—fails to impress. However, one standout feature is the incredible music in Level 1. Composed by Tim Follin, it’s an absolute masterpiece and easily worth the original £2.99 price tag on its own.
